For decades, as an author when you promote a book, you, your publisher and publicist reach out to the media with what are called “galleys.” A galley is the “pre-published” edition of a book that gives the media a chance to read it in advance of the public. The obvious reason you send this to the media is to get attention. You hope they will interview and/or review it, and in turn you will reach the public.
This morning it hit me that what really matters to me at this point is reaching YOU, my serious core group of readers. YOU, who send me your thank you emails, your letters, and post your appreciation on my website and on my Facebook page .
I came into the office today and thought, let’s give you a chance to do what the media has always been able to do (read the book and review it before it comes out!)
Now the risk in doing this is that a galley isn’t the final version. It’s not copy-edited, it’s not perfect, and the final edition will have changes. But, its 98% finalized, and its also truly amazing.
My other risk here honestly, is that if we give it away, you won’t buy a copy later. Truthfully, I’m not worried about that. I know if you are a core fan and you read this book and love it as much as I think you will, not only will you buy a copy for yourself, but hopefully you will buy a copy for a friend for the holidays or the New Year.

We had to talk my publisher into doing this. Again, it’s relatively unheard of. We’re only going to give access to 100 people to read the galley, at this point.
