Remotivate Yourself in Just 30 Seconds

It is so important at the beginning of every year to get in a positive mindset and set the stage for the next 12 months. I have a variety of different strategies that I use to get myself and my team pumped up for the year ahead, but one thing I ALWAYS do is read the poem Anyway by Mother Teresa. Some of you may have heard it once or twice before, but even if you already know the poem I want you to read it, digest it, and apply it to your life this year. Take your time reading it and let the words really soak in. I hope you all enjoy the poem as much as I do and I hope it helps inspire you today and for many years to come.

      Mother Teresa’s Anyway Poem

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

I would love to hear your feedback after reading the poem—which line hit home with you the most? What is something you can work on this year? Leave your comments below!

  1. If you are honest and frank people will cheat you, be honest anyway. It is not with them you will spend eternity.

  2. Great contribution David, I haven’t read/said that prayer before, but hope to keep it close in 2012

    Happy New Year,

    Alan

  3. thanks for sharing. I don’t think I ever read the entire poem. I like the final line: we are to try to please God, not others.

  4. “You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
    It was never between you and them anyway”
    this is the essence of the poem. its NOT about doing what you think OTHERS think you should do–its about doing what is RIGHT for you. for YOUR family/kids. AND IF YOU HAVE TO GIVE UP THINGS…THEN YOU HAVE TO…to get where you think YOU should be. where you want to be, financially, emotionally–its all connected. NOBODY should be judging ANYBODY!!!

  5. I love this! If everyone lived by this even just a little, the world would be a much more harmonious and happier place.

  6. If you are kind,people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives,be kind anyway-thank you for the reminder that we are living in this world as human beings and are meant to be kind to each other
