Hi, this is David Bach. If you can avoid it, don't use a debit card when paying for a hotel stay, car rental- or even at the gas pump. When you do, the bank puts a block on a certain amount of money in your account until the entire transaction is completed and posted- which could take days. In the meantime, with your money tied up, you won't be able to access it. You might even incur fees for an overdrawn account. For times like these, when it's better to use a credit card, just be sure to pay that balance in full when your bill arrives. I'm David Bach.
