Hi, this is David Bach. The secret to buying a "fixer upper" is to buy one in the nicest area you can afford. To put it simply, it should be the worst house on the best block. Make sure you get at least three first rate contractors to give you estimates of what the work will cost and how long it will take. Then add 50 percent and ask yourself if you really have the time and money to pursue the project. If yes- ask your lender about home improvement loans that you might qualify for.
